Pastor Nathan Meeks  “John 3:16, An Assurance to the Believer.” Bro. Nathan starts his message on John 3:16 by reminding us that Christians should have more desire for truth than the ideas, however popular, of men; and assuring us that the Bible, being authored by God, is free from error and contradiction. When conflicts seem to appear, it’s not because the Bible is flawed, but because our understanding is flawed. The popular interpretation of John 3:16 leads to several Scriptural contradictions and, ultimately, leads to unbiblical conclusions. It’s not an invitation to the unbeliever, but an assurance to the believer!

Elder Meeks points us to scripture for “Comfort for The LORD’s People in the Uncertainty in Today’s World.” He begins with Proverbs 27:1, “Boast not thyself of to-morrow for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.”  There are five things of which we may be sure:  a sure covenant with God, a sure Saviour, sure guidance in our lives, a sure reward, and a sure hope.  We should find comfort in knowing that The LORD is in control and we should trust in His guiding hand.

Brother Nathan’s message this morning studies what Paul meant by the term, “One Baptism,” used in Ephesians 4:5.  Paul is calling for unity here, explaining that there is only one type of “valid” Christian baptism.  There are four things necessary for a valid baptism: 1) proper mode/method, 2) proper candidate, 3) proper purpose, and 4) proper authority to administer the baptism.  Baptism is, “…(not the putting away of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,”.   I Peter 3:21

Pastor Meeks examines, “What The Bible Says About Sin”, and begins with Romans 3:23:  “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; …”.  There are three reasons for sin: 1) imputation (representation) by Adam, 2) our own sin nature, and 3) by lifestyle/practice.  There are many kinds of sin, but can be broken down into two categories– sins of commission or sins of omission.  Sins of omission are failures to do the right thing, things which we have be instructed to do: attend church, bear one another’s burdens, study God’s Word, forgive one another, etc.  All sin is against God– The One Who owns you because He not only created you, but bought you with a price… The Blood of Jesus Christ!
