Brother Nathan Meeks: May 1, 2016

On May 1, 2016, in Uncategorized, by admin

“The Justifying Knowledge of Christ,” is the title of the message by Brother Meeks this morning.  He begins in Isaiah 53:11 and defines the term “justification”.   The knowledge of Christ is: 1) of the suffering which He would endure, and 2) for whom it was that He would give up His life.  Jesus knows us; our eternal salvation is not dependent upon whether we know Him.

Brother Nathan Meeks: April 10, 2016

“Waiting on God” is the subject of Brother Meeks’ message today and he begins with the familiar verses, Isaiah 40: 30-31.  “Waiting” sometimes goes beyond the natural world and we must wait spiritually.  Things to do so we don’t “faint” are: 1) remember The Lord, 2) pray (Luke 18:1), and 3)wait upon The Lord.  We can find renewed strength by “waiting on God”, which can involve waiting on His providence, literally “waiting” upon Him as a servant, or waiting on His return.  Job showed such trust in Chapter 19: 25-26.

Brother Nathan Meeks: April 3, 2016

Brother Meeks continues the study which he began on March 6 in I Timothy 3:15.  Today his message, entitled “Behaving Thyself”, focuses on the portion of the verse, “…thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God…”.  There are certain behaviors which are mandatory: in public worship, among the members, and interacting within the secular world.  If we choose not to adhere to these standards, there may be consequences of losing fellowship with God or with the church.  “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Gal 6:7)  We are all called to continue striving to live more Godly lives.

Brother Nathan Meeks: March 6, 2016

As Brother Meeks looks at  I Timothy 3:15, he explains that he will probably need two messages to complete his study of this verse because there is a great wealth of information contained therein.  Today he begins by studying the term, “The Church of the Living God”.  The church is more than just a meeting house, it is a body of believers.  In Matthew 16:18 we find that the church belongs to God, and in Ephesians 2:20 Jesus is called the “chief cornerstone”   There are good and well-intentioned of God’s people in ANY church, who may simply be mistaken in their beliefs.  How can we identify the true church: that church established by Jesus Christ himself and not by man?

Brother Nathan Meeks: Feb 21, 2016

The subject of Brother Meeks’ message this morning is, “This World Is a Troubling Place.”  Job 5: 7  records, “Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.”  We will ALL suffer tribulation.   Paul described that, “the whole creation groaneth and travaileth”.  (Rom 8:22)  Yet, as God’s children, we can maintain a proper perspective to cope, which sets us apart from others.  We must consider that all the trials and troubles of this world are just temporary.  We must also keep the perspective that not all troubles are catastrophic/a “swelling of the Jordan” event (Jer 12:5)  If you weary yourself on the small things, you will not have strength to endure bigger difficulties.  How can one deal with a “swelling of the Jordan” event?  1) look for higher ground– there is help dwelling above       2) remember Christ our Saviour–The One Who calmed the storm and walked on water.

Brother Meeks studies the question, “Will ye also go away?”  (John 6:67)  Brother Nathan warns us of eight reasons why God’s children might choose to turn away from Him.   We must choose to be steadfast, unmovable, and determine to follow The LORD.   Do not await a more “convenient season”  such as Felix did (Acts 24:25).  We must become familiar with The Bible and ground ourselves in the doctrines and truth of Jesus Christ.

Brother Nathan’s message this morning is entitled, “A More Excellent Way.”  He begins his study in   I Cor 12:31.  Above all God’s best gifts,  “charity” is the more excellent way.    We will no longer need faith or hope after Christ returns.   In   I Cor 13:8, Paul wrote that, “charity never faileth”.  After the return of Christ, there will exist a perfect love that lasts into eternity.

“Jonah”  is the subject of Brother Meeks’ message this morning.  The Book of Jonah is a personal narrative, an account of his attempt to flee from the presence of The Lord.  There are many lessons to be learned here; for example, our obedience (or lack thereof) can affect those around us, we should take responsibility for our own actions,  we can pray directly to God with Jesus as our only intercessor, and The Lord is long-suffering.   Also, just as the people of Nineveh were unexpectedly receptive to the teachings of Jonah, we may be surprised by those whom we may encounter that would be receptive to hearing The Gospel.  “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:”.  (I Peter 3:15)

As the first message of the new year, Brother Meeks teaches on “A New Year and the Same Enemy”.   Some of God’s children have mistaken ideas about satan.  Some believe that satan is not real, some underestimate his power, and some are ignorant of his devices.  In I Peter 5:8 we are warned to be vigilant because the devil is as a roaring lion.  Brother Nathan describes some of satan’s many devices: doubt, division, drawing (tempting), and deception.   In 2016 we need to stand against satan’s strategies, devices, and tactics.

On this last Sunday of 2015, Brother Meeks preaches on “The Six c’s for a Better New Year.”  There are many examples of use of the word “better” in The Bible; some are– a better covenant, a better promise, and a better Resurrection.   Brother Nathan studies (1) character, (2) content, (3) companionship, (4) control, (5) church, and (6) confidence.  By attending church and applying to our lives what we learn, we have a great potential for having a better new year.
